Harshinder was born in Mbarara, Uganda to a Sikh family. She came to England at a very young age as her family fled the Idi Amin regime. Harshinder has a long history within the fields of Art/Fashion and Design. Today she develops her work as a ‘Style Artist’, working to a brief with individuals, hotels and restaurants.
Having dedicated much of her time to painting and exhibiting, alongside her devotion to supporting her son with Autism. This exhibition is to commemorate the 50 years to the expulsion of British Ugandan Asians residing within the UK and her home town of Bristol. Having close links with many groups celebrating the 50th commemorative years she would like to support all those who fled the regime and remember their stories to be retold and to form part of history today. Harshinder loves to revisit her birthplace as once the pearl of Africa and encourages many to do the same.
Her love of travel, passion for dance, landscape and form has inspired her to create this collection of paintings and greeting cards to illustrate the deep textures, colours, movement to style any space which lends itself to her work.
She developed the paintings in mixed mediums using acrylic and oil pastels, often with high textures created by sand, rubbings, items/artefacts of meaning from her studio and travels.
